hummingbird feeder
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Nice glass feeder, biggest flaw is there is no bee/insect guards in the ports, so bugs etc have easy entry, then die and contaminate the food. It is great that you can seperate the base to clean that easily. I have never seen that before and I love it. Missing bug guards are a REAL problem. I have had to dump the liquid the same day I filled it due to dead bugs floating! That is why I gave it only 3 stars.
Glass cracked bottom fell out 2 hours after installed

I just purchased online, from Amazon, box intact. I filled half way with hummingbird nectar, and hung in my bag yard. Less than 2 hours later I found that the glass completely cracked at the just below the fill hole and the entire fill spout cracked off. Nothing more to do but to toss in the trash, unrepairable. Unbelievable. N0 I did not over tighten.
I am not sure it is worth my time to call them for replacement.
But I thought I would write the review.
Best Hummingbird feeder I’ve found
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
My wife and I bought one of these hummingbird feeders from an unremembered store some years ago. After doing a little product sleuthing, I was able to locate and purchase two more.
What I like about these feeders are not only the adjustable perches for the hummingbirds to sit on but the entire base can be taken apart (unscrewed) for easy cleaning.
With two feeders in the front yard and one in the back, we are seeing so many of these exquisite little creatures.
Hummers love it (at first, at least)

UPDATE: June 23, 2009
Now our feeder has become the most popular feeder in the yard for ANTS. This morning I emptied 1″ of ants off the top of the food. That’s a lot of ants in 12 hours. The hummers took leave since they do not care for black ants. I put an ant trap in the top and a 4″ swath of lithium on the staff coupled with an 8″ length of sticky side out tape. Hope that works.
UPDATE: June 3, 2009
Along came spring and the hummers came back only to take a fly at the 476-3 feeder and quickly leave. It has been 8 feedings and not one has enjoyed their feeding as much as last year. Is it the feeder? Is it the formula (same as last year – 4 to 1) or is there an enemy in the woods or close by? I changed the feeder to one from several years ago and it worked but the 476-3 is a non-plus.
Forget about the fact that this is a really nice hummer feeder. It has the adjustable feeding stands and a top that can be used for a funnel. It has a nice heft to it and is well made. What makes this 5 stars is the birds really appear to like it. I say appear because I have not learned hummer talk yet. Altogether we have 5 feeders in the yard and this is the most popular among the birds. There is no reason to spend money on hummers if you do not like them but if you do such as we, then you will enjoy watching them and their routines. There is something to behold in watching about 12 at a time going from one feeder to another while they are chasing each other. It is quite an experience and I thank the Garden Jewel folks for permitting me to buy the feeder.
Update March 2009 – Change to 4 stars

UPDATE March 2009: Put out feeder today — realized when putting pieces back together, the 2 bottom sections have to be aligned just right for the perches to match up with the flower ports — to do this, I could not tighten the bases completely. I actually had to tighten and then un-screw a bit for everything to match up. Now, I am concerned about possible leakage. I will have to monitor for this…if leakage is a problem, this feeder will be a definite problem. We’ll see…
I have several years of experience feeding hummers, and this is my new favorite feeder…very sturdy, good capacity — don’t have to refill too often, thick glass, excellent feeding ports and adjustable perches. But the reason I will keep buying it and buy it for gifts is: it is the easist to clean that I have ever had!!!
This is so important to keeping the hummers safe and healthy, and to keep them returning to your feeders. The entire base comes apart and there are no nooks/crannies to maneuver around — only flat surfaces. Opus also makes a great window hummingbird feeder which Amazon sells. Invest in a brush set to clean, especially the really small brush to get into the drinking ports, and you will be set to enjoy hummingbirds all season! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this feeder!!
Love these feeders!

With the addition of these two feeders (delivered yesterday) I now have a total of 11 hummingbird feeders. Although they’re out of stock right now, I’m ordering 2 more today. We have Anna’s hummingbirds all year long here but, ever since late last summer, we also have quite a few Rufous hummers migrating back to Mexico. The majority of the feeders are Perky Pet feeders but, unfortunately, not all models come with bee guards. This is the month where our honey bees are desperate for food and they will battle it out with our hummers. I couldn’t wait to get the new additions hung up this morning and I am 100% satisfied. The bees approach the ports but quickly find that they cannot get any food from them and move on to other feeders. I made my own hanger from some nylon cording that works fine for me. I also love the adjustable perches. I wish I could count how many we have but I’m guesstimating maybe 30 or more. They’re perching in our Oak trees or they’re circulating back and forth to the feeders. I love mornings and evenings when I can just sit on the porch and observe.
Great, sturdy hummingbird feeder!

I had been looking for a sturdy hummingbird feeder that didn’t look too cheap or tacky for a while when I finally found this one at Walmart for $10. It was the last one that they had, and I wish that I could find it again for the same price or even slightly more (I’m unwilling at this point to pay double the price plus shipping), as I’ve decided to get several more feeders. Despite the fact that the base is plastic, this feeder is solidly made. The glass bottle is an elegant hourglass shape, the plastic flowers for the feeding ports are a little more intricate than most, and the perch design is clever as well as functional. Most importantly, since hanging the hummingbird feeder, we have attracted not only our resident hummingbird, a Ruby-Throated male that I’ve jokingly nick-named “Rambo” for his aggressive defense of the feeder, but we’ve also drawn in several others (hence the need for additional feeders).
Big, but not as good as I’d hoped

Very easy to fill, nice thick glass, but I’ve noticed that it needs to be tapped or rocked several times for the first couple of days when it’s full to almost full to allow the solution to “glug, glug” and get into the bottom. Bee guards fall out if our squirrels even think about touching them. They’re easy to put back, but it’s a nuisance. This should come with some kind of serious hanger. The little S-hook included didn’t even begin to do the job.
